COMMUNITY SERVICE

• The Community Service Club of the school undertook an initiative to help the underprivileged children of ‘PRAYAS CHILDREN HOME’. 25 students of class IX along with two teachers visited there on 28 January 2020.

It was an enriching experience for the students of our school as they got sensitised towards the struggles of the children who live without their parents. They visited their classrooms, interacted with them and distributed gifts, thus experiencing the Joy of Giving.

• Children of Pre Primary collected woollens to spread warmth AMONG underprivileged children and people living in flood affected areas.Children were enthusiastic and happy to share their sweaters and jackets with children who have to go without woollens in this severe cold.

Some Sarees were also collected and sent to the flood affected areas where countless women are struggling without enough sarees.

PAUSE FOR A CAUSE

A fundraising stall was put up during the winter carnival on 22.12.19. The participants had to guess the number of candies in the jar. Rs.10 was charged for each guess. The money collected from the stall was donated to Baliga Trust, an NGO our school is closely associated with.

NGO Visit
Children from the NGO “Prateek Special School” were invited to attend the winter carnival held on 22nd December to join all the fun and excitement. They enjoyed the rides, played a few games and had the meal together. They had a gala time in school fete.

• 36 STUDENTS OF 11^th F visited SHUBHLAKSHIKA EDUCATIONAL SOCIETY- A SHELTER HOME FOR STREET CHILDREN on 31^st  August, 2019. The students carried pulses, rice, sugar, toiletries and eatables for the inhabitants. The life of the street children and the day spent dancing and interacting with them, surely gave enough food for thought to our students who are now all geared up to bring a change in the society.
• Rashtriya Pragya Drishti Sansthan is a school for blind children who want to study and excel in life not letting their disabilities discourage them . On 31st August 2019 , students of class 12F visited the institution, as a part of the SEWA activity . The main idea of the visit was to instill humanity, sensitivity and empathy in the students for differently abled people. The students , after witnessing the situation of people, their age facing difficulties and yet being so cheerful and optimistic, were grateful for the invaluable gifts given to them .
• The students of class XII-C visited Missionaries of Charity Nirmal Hriday, a shelter for the homeless on 4^th  May, 2019. The aim of the visit was to sensitise the students towards the impoverished and their needs. The students met the Sister In-charge who addressed them and shared the problems they face on a daily basis. The students got the opportunity to interact with the inmates. The students donated grocery items generously.

• एक मुठ्ठी  दान“एक एक एक करके बनता हैं अनेक“ Keeping this in mind we at Bal BharatiPublic School have started a project “एक मुठ्ठी  दान ”.The parents were requested to send a handful of dal mixed in a disposable box and no polybags were to be used for this purpose. These were collected over a week in each class. The children discovered the magic of one handful collected every day. The joy of seeing the box filled was unmatched . We later collected it from each section and donated it to Sarthak Prayas – an NGO, our school is closely associated with .This will be used  for their “Monthly Ration Distribution Drive” for the homeless elderly people.JOY OF GIVING WEEKOn the first anniversary of ‘Joy of Giving Week’ (19th to 23rd Aug ’19), the Middle department celebrated and participated with full momentum to live up to the ‘giving’ theme.A twin visit to Gaushaala and Old Age Home was organised. The students of class VIII offered chapatis to the cows which they had brought from their home, living up to the true Indian tradition.The residents of Old Age Home were elated with the songs presented by the school choir. They danced and had a gala time with the children. Our students also carried religious texts for the elderly.  This helped achieve the much desired connect between the students and the senior citizens.The joy of giving week also saw students expressing their gratitude to the teachers. The  Art Club students designed beautiful coasters and gave them to their teachers.The students of the Eco Club went to the local market in the vicinity and presented a street play on the need to stop the use of plastic bags, thus experiencing the joy of giving back to the environment and community.The students also distributed tea and biscuits to the support staff by giving them a surprise break and bringing a smile on their face.

  They also helped the students with special needs to complete their work by becoming their buddies.

  The  ‘Joy of Giving’ was increased manifold when the students received sponsorship from our principal, Mrs Meenu Goswami. Both the Old Age Home and the Gaushaala were benefitted by her thoughtful and kind gesture.

   

• Carrying forward its legacy of lending a helping hand as and when possible, the students and staff of Primary Department once again came together and donated wholeheartedly for the Goonj Foundation, an organisation which collects woollens, stationery items, school bags and eatables to help the lesser privileged people. The material was sent on Saturday, 6^th April 2019 at the Collection Camp organised by Goonj for this purpose.

• Community Lunch Seva for children from 24^th November to 28^th  November, 2017 respectively wherein they sat as a community and ate lunch together which was served by volunteer parents and class teachers. Children learnt to finish what was in their plate (zero food wastage),  clean up and get a sense of belongingness towards the school when they saw their parents as part of the program, helping and serving food to children of their school .Visitors from Mexico also attended this community lunch and relished the food.
• The Community Service group of our school took an initiative of helping the needy children by collecting old book sets, bags, water bottles, lunch boxes, uniforms etc. from each section of Classes VI-IX.
• The collected material was then given to the EWS students  and guards who cannot afford to buy these books and other items. The extra books will be sent to the NGOs to help the underprivileged children of the society.
• An awareness cum collection drive was organised to reach out to hundreds of villages and towns affected by the widespread floods. Students across all classes contributed blankets, bed sheets, slippers and dry rations which were then collected by Goonj(NGO).
• Students of class XI visited Sanjay Gandhi Animal Hospital on 5^th August, 2017. Students carried eatables like pulses, wheat flour, biscuits and fruits for the animals. It was an enriching experience for these students as they came back more compassionate towards animals and with the ambition of studying  veterinary sciences.
• The students of class XI  visited Nirmal Hriday, Mother Teresa’s  home for dying destitutes, TimarPur on 7^th October, 2017. They carried with them dry rations and spent some beautiful moments talking with the inmates, sharing and spreading positivity around.

Corporate social responsibility refers to a corporation's  initiatives to assess and take responsibility for the company's effects on environmental and social wellbeing. The term generally applies to efforts that go beyond what may be required by regulators or environmental protection groups.

Teachers and administrators don't transform the school just by crafting a vision. Our school has created new courses, projects, and learning activities designed to foster students' social responsibility. These new experiences teach students to care about one another, to critically examine violence and social justice issues, and to foster skills and adopt actions that will help resolve social problems.

This effort has changed our school along four dimensions that are believed to be essential for fostering social responsibility within any school: It enhanced the culture of the school; gave students opportunities to reflect on their own values, beliefs, and behaviors; offered enriched academic learning experiences; and encouraged students to serve others.

These goals are developed in the following ways:

• On a regular basis students and teachers give donations to various NGO’s. Students are also taken for a visit to NGO’s to help them understand the importance of self-less service and inculcate the value of empathy, kindness and generosity.
• Staff members also enthusiastically contribute towards all such endeavors. For instance, to help in the relief work in Uttrakhand tragedy teachers donated their one day salary and similar effort is being made to help those who suffered the tragedy in J & K.

• SUPW activities like Forgiveness Tree: Students were asked to write a message of forgiveness and pin them on the bulletin board to make a tree of forgiveness. This was an attempt to help children realize the importance of forgiveness in creating healthier relationships and greater spiritual and psychological well-being

SOCIAL ENGAGEMENT AND RESPONSIBILITY ACTIVITIES

Thirty students of class IX and X along with three teachers  visited Prayas, an NGO in Jahangir Puri, serving as a home to 137 children.

Bal Bharati Public School, Pitampura in association with Hindustan Times organised a Woollen Collection Drive for two weeks in the school campus. This initiative was started under the aegis of Godrej Foundation. This initiative not only promoted the spirit of giving in students but also motivated them to spread warmth and love during winter amongst the needy. “There is no better joy than the joy of giving. Our children are fortunate to express this joy and, in so doing, to bring warmth into the lives of many others” said Mrs Meenu Goswami, Principal, BBPS.

On 16th December 2015 thirty students of class IX and X visited Prayas, an NGO in Jahangir Puri, serving as a shelter home to 122 children. The students had taken gifts along with them to cheer the children.

Thirty five students of class IX and X visited Wanprasth Ashram, an old age home, in Rohini, sector-11, on 21st December, 2015. The students sang Bhajans and Christmas carols and created an environment of happiness. The members of the Gardening Club also donated Medicinal plants like Tulsi, Alovera and Curry Leaves which would be really useful to the inmates.
